Hanoi-Niigata Workshop on Industry-Academia Collaboration was held


Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and the International University of Japan (IUJ) concluded an agreement in May 2016 related to the promotion of comprehensive collaboration and partnerships. Based on this agreement, we held “Hanoi-Niigata Workshop on Industry-Academia Collaboration” at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Vietnam on 22nd and 23rd January, 2018. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam, and we held this workshop as a commemorative event of it.

This workshop was a great success with 180 participants; faculty, staff, graduates, and alumni of NUT, IUJ, and HUST involved in activities within the country of Vietnam, companies who wish to interact more closely with global personnel, as well as companies with interests in expanding or exporting to Vietnam or forming business partnerships with Vietnamese companies.

On 22nd Jan (Mon), Dr. Nobuhiko Azuma (President of NUT) delivered opening remarks at the morning session, and Dr. Hoang Minh Son (President of HUST), Mr. Kunio Umeda (Ambassador of Japanese embassy in Vietnam), and Mr. Nguyen Phu Binh (Former Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) gave welcome speech. Following that, the organizer (JETRO, IUJ, and NUT) delivered speeches and Mr. Tsutomu Takebe (Chairman of Japan-Vietnam Parliamentarians' Friendship League, NUT Honorary Doctorate) delivered keynote lecture.

At the afternoon session, exhibition booths for 20 institutions were installed and active discussions such as establishment of network and overseas circumstances were carried out. Following that, Lab tour and Gala dinner were held at HUST.

On 23rd Jan (Tue), participants visited companies based in Niigata which operating in Hanoi (Company tour), and participants exchanged various opinions of globalization for SMEs.
