Nagaoka Summer School for Young Engineers (NASSYE)

OVERVIEW

Nagaoka Summer School for Young Engineers (NASSYE) is a summer school program designed for penultimate engineering students who are interested in proceeding their graduate studies in Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT).

The program offers students the opportunity to experience research work at NUT laboratories and take part in various cultural exchange events, including site-visit and Japanese cultural learning activities.

1. PROGRAM OUTLINE

(3) Program Content

  • Conduct research at assigned laboratory (Participants will choose their research topics to be carried out during the program, see list of research topics below for details)

  • Company visit and local site-visits

  • Cultural experience activities for example calligraphy, tea ceremony, traditional Japanese Taiko experience etc.

2. ELIGIBITIY

We welcome undergraduate students who are at their penultimate year and are interested in enrolling in master’s or doctoral program at NUT in the future.

The selection procedure will involve an evaluation of the application documents based on each applicant’s academic performance and English language proficiency.

Reference for minimum English test score is shown below:

TOEFL iBT 61 or above
TOEFL CBT 173 or above
TOEFL PBT 500 or above
TOEIC 550 or above
IELTS 5 or above
Cambridge English 155 or above

3. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Please download and submit the necessary documents from the website below:

(1) Application Documents

  • Application Form (Form A)

  • Certificate of Enrollment (Form B)

  • Academic Transcript(Original): If you are not able to acquire an original, you should submit a true copy certified by the registrar.

  • Recommendation Letter: Must be written by the applicant’s academic advisor, or head of department or above.

  • Copy of an English language proficiency Test Score: Non-native English speakers are required to submit. However, it can be waived if an applicant who can show that he/she is enrolling at a program in which the medium of instruction is English.

(2) Important Notes

  • All submitted documents should be in English or Japanese language. If a certificate is written in another language, the applicant must include a translation in English.

  • Please use the provided Application Form (Form A) and Certificate of Enrollment (Form B).

  • Incomplete documents or late submission will not be accepted.

  • Application materials will not be returned to the applicant under any circumstances.

Accepted applicants will receive notification email on their assigned academic advisor and research laboratory at NUT, as well as the details of the program schedule.

4. FEES, SCHOLARSHIPS AND ACCOMODATION

*Conditions are subject to change.

(1) Program Participation Fee

Free of charge.

(2) Scholarship

JPY 40,000

(3) Accomodation

Free of charge for participants who stay at NUT provided accommodation.

If participants decide to arrange their own accommodation, they will need to afford the expenses.

*NUT is not responsible for accommodation arrangement before or after the program period.
*Participants are responsible for their own expenses on transportation and daily expenses.

(4) Insurance

NUT will arrange health and casualty insurance for all participants, and the expenditure will be deducted from the scholarship mentioned above.

5. PROGRAM SCHEDULE

  • Orientation and campus tour

  • Laboratory research (5 to 7 days)

  • Company tours and cultural experience activities

  • Closing ceremony and student presentation
