Student SDGs Promoters Supported the "Science and Technology English" Class at Ichinoseki KOSEN

From May to June 2025, student SDGs Promoters from Nagaoka University of Technology supported the mandatory subject "Science and Technology English" for second-year advanced course students at the National Institute of Technology, Ichinoseki College (Ichinoseki KOSEN). This initiative was planned to foster students' ability to tackle international problem-solving through English and was conducted entirely online.

During the classes, the participants examined challenges in various countries and regions from the perspective of the SDGs and engaged in English discussions and group work. The SDGs Promoters played a vital role in supporting the KOSEN students' learning by introducing the current situation abroad and facilitating the exchange of opinions toward solutions. Online communication tools like Slack were also utilized, ensuring continuous international interaction throughout the course period.

The final presentation of the "SDGs Global Academic Discussions," held on Friday, June 27, was conducted in a hybrid format, where the student groups delivered their presentations in English. The top-performing groups presented practical ideas leveraging their engineering knowledge, showcasing diverse possibilities for addressing the challenges of the SDGs. Following the presentations, a laboratory tour and cultural exchange were also held, providing a valuable opportunity to deepen ties through both technology and culture.

Through this initiative, the KOSEN students shared feedback such as, "Presenting in English was nerve-wracking, but it boosted my confidence," and "It gave me an opportunity to think about global issues in a more personal way." For the SDGs Promoters, collaborating with the KOSEN students on problem-solving was also a significant learning experience, resulting in a mutually stimulating opportunity.

Our university will continue to promote educational activities that contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. We plan to achieve this by providing learning opportunities that increase interest in global affairs, actively supporting student activities, and fostering partnerships with people of diverse values and experiences.
