The Malaysia Alumni Reunion was held

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, ahead of the university's upcoming 50th anniversary, the Malaysia Alumni Reunion was held in Kuala Lumpur for the first time in 12 years.

Nagaoka University of Technology has collaborated with Malaysian partner institutions through Malaysian Government's "Look East Policy (LEP) framework. Since the 1980s, NUT and its Malaysian partner institutions have engaged in a wide range of collaborative activities, including twinning program, overseas practical training and internship exchanges, joint research, and faculty exchanges, producing more than 400 graduates to date. NUT alumni are actively engaged as engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs not only in Malaysia and Japan, but also across ASEAN countries, Europe, and other regions around the world.

The reunion brought together 55 alumni, ranging from graduates of the 1980s to young graduates of the 2020s. In addition, the gathering was joined by Counsellor Kitaoka of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, President Kamado, and other university representatives, bringing the total number of participants to 65.

Representing NUT were President Kamado, Vice President Miyashita, Prof. Naoko Lee Iizuka, Prof. Takashi Yamaguchi, Prof. Munehiro Kimura, Associate Prof. Takahiro Watari, and Assistant Prof. Nur Adlin. The event was filled with warm smiles as participants celebrated long-awaited reunions and shared updates on their careers and memories from their student days.

This reunion reaffirmed the depth of our partnership and served as a valuable opportunity to further strengthen our alumni network.

Looking ahead, we will continue to promote industry-academia-government collaboration by utilizing the alumni network, and expand opportunities for joint research and educational initiatives, as well as for the global engagement of students and young researchers. In particular, we expect new initiatives to emerge from deeper collaboration with companies and research institutions based in Malaysia and the creation of joint projects in the ASEAN region.
