April 03, 2026
On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, an exchange activity "Getting to Know Nagaoka, "between international students and local residents was held as part of the "Multicultural Campus Project Toward Social Impact."
At this event, using aerial photographs of Nagaoka City taken in 1975 and 2005 as materials, Associate Professor Toshiya Matsukawa, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, explained the town development of Nagaoka City while comparing Nagaoka then and now. After that, based on the aerial photographs, exchanges were carried out with international students and members of "Mutsumiーkai, " a voluntary group supporting NUT's international students.
During the exchange, members of "Mutsumiーkai" introduced the history of Nagaoka City to the international students while showing them the aerial photographs, and the participants appeared to have a strong interest in the changes of Nagaoka City.
In the after-event questionnaire, the students made comments such as, "It became a valuable opportunity to gain knowledge about the city where I live, and it was a very good experience."
Through this activity, it became an opportunity for the international students to increase their interest in the region where they live and to develop a stronger attachment to it, and at the same time, it became an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding through exchange.
In this project, by having students interact with local residents, we aim to develop R&D Professionals who engage with people of different generations and values, and who have a broad perspective while respecting diversity.
