General Consultation and Support Desk

The “General Consultation and Support Desk” was established to help students experience their university lives with peace of mind from the time of admission until graduation.
Are you facing any problems? Instead of keeping them to yourself, feel free to come to the General Consultation and Support Desk.
A consultant will listen to you and respond with kindness. Your privacy is guaranteed.

Come and talk to us…when you don’t know who to talk to, when you are worried about your academic or career path, when you have trouble in your daily life, when you are worried about interpersonal relationships, when you have requests or complaints to the university, etc.

The General Consultation and Support Desk will assist your university life by linking you with the appropriate faculty or staff member, with your approval, based on the content of the problem.

Student Support Staff

Class instructors, academic supervisors, and student committee members also fulfill the roles of student support staff, and can be contacted through phone or e-mail.
Students who are facing problems should consult with the applicable faculty members.

Class Instructors/Academic Supervisors

At NUT, all faculty members are available to students for consultations. Undergraduate students without a designated research laboratory will be assigned class instructors, who are faculty members placed in charge of each year’s cohort within a program. Undergraduate and graduate students with a designated research laboratory can consult with their laboratory’s academic supervisor to receive guidance and advice on various matters.
Under NUT’s system, these faculty members will not only provide guidance on the students’ studies, education, and research, but are also available to discuss extracurricular activities and other aspects of student life.
All students should feel free to consult with the faculty members on any problems, even minor issues.

Class Instructors

A list of class teachers is posted on the learning management system "ILIAS" (Repository > Student Support).

Faculty Advisors

For Undergraduate Students

In addition to the class instructors, faculty advisors are also assigned to provide more detailed guidance and advice. Each faculty advisor is responsible for a small group of 5 to 6 students, and can discuss all aspects of student life while coordinating with the class instructors.
In principle, the name of each student’s assigned advisor will be announced every April by the Division of Academic Affairs for first-year students, and by each program for second- to fourth-year students. Please check the campus bulletin boards, etc. for these announcements. The faculty advisors may set a date/time in advance for consultations, but students can also consult with the advisors whenever needed.

A list of advisory teachers for first-year students is also posted on the learning management system "ILIAS" (Repository > Student Support).

For Graduate Students

In addition to the academic supervisors, faculty advisors are also assigned from other laboratories or courses.
The faculty advisors may set a date/time in advance for consultations, but students can also consult with the advisors whenever needed.

Consultations for LGBT-related Matters

NUT is committed to respecting gender diversity and ensuring that students can live their university lives equally without discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. To do so, we have established the “Guidelines for Serving LGBT+ Students” to address these issues.
The General Consultation and Support Desk is available for consultations regarding LGBT-related matters. Students who are experiencing these issues should feel free to consult with us.

Others

Relationships with Friends, etc.

Every student is sure to have friends in classes, laboratories, club activities, or other settings.
All people, and not only students, will have problems that they need to discuss and cannot be eliminated from their daily lives.
Common cases include the results of one’s judgement turning out to be wrong or irreversible, blowing a problem out of proportion, or unintentionally making a wrong judgement or conclusion.
Such cases can have permanent consequences, so please talk to your friends or people in your laboratory.

Relationships with Family

Everyone has family members, such as parents, siblings, and relatives. Unlike strangers, family members truly care about you.
University life frequently involves living independently away from your family.
It is important to stay in touch with your parents and other family members to let them know about your daily life, and to regularly check in with one another.
