Adopted to FY 2014 MEXT “Re-Inventing Japan Project”

2014.10.01

“Re-Inventing Japan Project” is a project launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in 2011, which pursues the goals of developing global human resources who can be active in the international arena and of strengthening the capacity of global development of university education. Assuring the quality of higher education, it aims to support the challenges of international educational cooperation between overseas study by Japanese students and universities in Asia, U.S., and Europe, which strategically accept foreign students.

In fiscal year 2014, as “Support for the Formation of Collaborative Programs with Russian and Indian Universities”, support is to be provided for projects that implement an exchange program with quality assurance between universities in the two countries. The program applied by Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) was adopted: “Cooperative engineer education program with south Indian universities based on the long-term internship experience” with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) and the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram (IIITD&M).

NUT has actively accepted international students by pioneering and implementing educational programs such as the Twinning Program and Double Degree, ahead of other universities. Additionally, we have made positive efforts to work on overseas dispatching of Japanese students since 1990, including overseas internship training that sends students to foreign companies for six months to gain practical experience. Such achievements and the results of overseas development of education and research based on GIGAKU (Science of Technology) were recognized. We adopted the project as a university that promoted the capability of global development among universities in Japan.

From now on, along with constructing collaborative education systems with quality assurance, such as Joint Degree Program, and Industry–Academia–Government collaboration networks, we further expand overseas internship training and improve educational programs to develop innovative, practical global engineers who lead Japanese-owned companies and local enterprises. In the future, we will expand the educational program to be realized in the project to overseas strategic bases in the world, including other universities in India.
