Third Joint Symposium with Chulalongkorn University, Thailand Held

2015.01.29

On Monday, January 5, 2015, a joint symposium between the Faculty of Science, CU and NUT for the fields of chemistry, materials, biology, and environment was held on the campus of Chulalongkorn University (CU) in Bangkok.

Fourteen people participated in the symposium from NUT: 12 teaching staff and 2 Japanese NUT students (a fourth-year student of Materials Science and Technology, School of Engineering and a student of Materials Science and Technology, Graduate School of Engineering) who were being dispatched to CU on a short-term basis. At the symposium, after Prof. Supot Hannongbua, Dean of Faculty of Science, CU, delivered his opening speech, 18 presentations were delivered by teachers of CU and NUT. In addition, 15 poster presentations were made by students of CU and NUT, for which lively discussions were held. In addition, opinions were exchanged between teachers of CU and NUT on future cooperation of education and research, including the promotion of double degree programs for doctoral programs.

Since the First Joint Symposium was held in CU in December, 2010, we have conducted various activities including the Second Joint Symposium, the participation of CU teachers and graduate students in the past three GIGAKU Conferences, the holding of a joint colloquium with teachers of the Department of Materials Science, Faculty of Science, CU in Department of Materials Science and Technology, NUT, and the mutual exchange of teachers and students. The increasing development of education and research exchange can be expected through these activities.

The symposium was one challenge in the “Project to Form a Hub for Human Resources Development and New Industry Creation – Building a sustainable society through highly interactive, cooperative and educational research with Pacific Rim countries –”, which was implemented under special funding of NUT Operating Grants.
