On Wednesday, September 2, Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) held its first appointment ceremony for SDGs student promoters.
The Student SDGs Promoters were appointed for the first time this year in order to encourage students to think creatively towards public relations activities, events, and initiatives that lead enhancing the motivations of NUT students, together with faculty and staff members for the promotion of SDGs within the university.
As a member of the first SDGs promoters, a total of 13 diverse students were appointed, consisting four Japanese students and nine international students in a wide range of ages, from undergraduate students to students with a fulltime job. Considering the students who could not come to Japan due to the COVID-19 disaster, the appointment ceremony was held by both on-site and online.
At the appointment ceremony, President Nobuhiko Azuma handed each person in a letter of appointment and an orange-colored T-shirt related to the color of SDG9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) which NUT was appointed to the hub university by the United Nations.
In his greetings at the appointment ceremony, President Azuma stated that further promotion of SDGs is crucial in this challenging circumstances where COVID-19 keeps spreading worldwide, and he hopes that students will liven up their activities with innovative ideas. He also expressed his expectations that more interactions between students and faculty and staff members will be enhanced through SDGs promotion activities in the situations where face-to-face contact is limited.
The appointment ceremony was held in a relaxed atmosphere throughout, including students participating online, and it was expected that active activities will be conducted through collaboration between students and faculty and staff members in the future.
NUT, as a whole team, will continue to work together to make every effort to promote achieving the SDGs.
