On Thursday, December 12, an "SDGs Talk Seminar Series" was held in a hybrid format, co-hosted by industry, academia, government, and financial organizations.
Some lecturers were invited from external organizations, namely Mr.Shoken SHIMIZU (Japan Organization of Occupational Health and Safety; National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Japan) and Mr.Yoshihiko HIRANO (KITAC Co.,Ltd). They lectured alongside others from our university: Professor Takanori MIYOSHI and Associate Professor Reiko HOJO. The topic of the lecture was "Exploring the Future of the SDGs from an ISO Perspective: A Sustainable Society Considered in Terms of International Standards." In the lecture, after explaining the overview and basic knowledge of ISO standards, the lecturers discussed examples of ISO standards from the perspective of machine safety, alongside examples of initiatives taken by companies in this regard. In this way, participants were able to examine initiatives that were being taken toward realizing a sustainable society from an ISO perspective, together with companies and local residents.
Participants left positive feedback, including the following comments: "I found the perspective that ISO initiatives are connected to the SDGs interesting," "I was able to get an overview of ISO, which I personally hadn't known much about," and "It was good that they used specific examples." We were received valuable feedback on how to organize future lectures.
The event was a great success, with more than 60 participants attending on the day, both on-site and online.
As a UNAI (United Nations Academic Impact) SDG9 Global Hub University, we will continue to communicate about the SDGs as widely as possible, including Nagaoka citizens. We will also continue to engage in activities that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, as well as research, technological development, and education that will foster innovation that can contribute to society.
