1976

  • October

    Founding of the university (The administrative office was initially placed within the
    National Institute of Technology, Nagaoka College campus)

1977

  • April

    Establishment of the School of Engineering

1978

  • April

    The First Entrance Ceremony for the School of Engineering was held

  • December

    ▪︎ Inaugural General Meeting of the Nagaoka University of Technology Cooperative Association was held
    ▪︎ First issue of the university newsletter “VOS” was published

1979

  • October

    Commencement of the Jitsumu-Kunren internship program—the first of its kind among Japanese universities—in which fourth-year undergraduate students spend approximately five months undergoing practical training at a company

1980

    Establishment of the Master’s Program at the Graduate School of Engineering

1981

  • August

    Composition of the school song

    The First NUT Festival was held

1982

  • January

    Permission was granted to establish The Foundation for Applied Research and Technological Uniqueness at NUT

    The university’s official name in English was changed from “Technological University of Nagaoka” to “Nagaoka University of Technology”

    Commencement of the overseas Jitsumu-Kunren internship program

1996

    The university celebrated its 20th Anniversary

2003

  • March

    Signing of an agreement with Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Vietnam) to create a twinning program system – the first twinning program established by a national university in Japan

2004

    The university was incorporated as a National University Corporation

2005

  • February

    Opening of the Nagaoka University of Technology Hanoi Office

2006

  • April

    Establishment of the System Safety Program (Professional Degree Course) at the Graduate School of Management of Technology

    The university celebrated its 30th Anniversary

2008

    Completed construction of the 30th Anniversary Student House

    Creation of the university’s symbol mark (logo)

    Establishment of the 5-year Integrated Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Engineering

    The university celebrated its 40th Anniversary

    GIGAKU SDG Institute was selected for the UNESCO Chairs Programme

  • October

    The university was appointed by the United Nations as the SDG Hub for Goal 9

  • December

    The university received the Award for Excellence for its Jitsumu-Kunren internship program from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Awards for Internships at Universities”

2022

    Establishment of the Bachelor’s Program in Engineering at the School of Engineering, Master’s Program in Engineering at the Graduate School of Engineering, and Doctoral Program in Engineering within the Doctoral Program

  • September

    The university’s “Value Improvement of Education and Research Systems and Financial Base Expansion through Metaverse Utilization and Resource Management of Both Universities of Technology” project was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “National University Reform and Research Fund Promotion Grant (Project to Promote the Reformation of National University Management)”

    The university’s “The Biocommunity Centre: A NIIGATA Circular Bioeconomy Initiative” project was selected for the Japan Science and Technology Agency’s “Program on Open Innovation Platform for Industry-Academia Co-Creation (COI-NEXT)”

2023

  • February

    The university was the third institution in Japan to be certified for the UNITWIN Network in the “UNITWIN Network for Engineering Education towards Sustainable Pathways”

  • March

    The university was selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Project for the Development of Incubation and Industry-Academia Fusion Centers in Regional Core Universities”

  • April

    The university was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Project for the Development of Facilities for Industry-Academia-Government Collaborative and Joint Research Through Cooperation Among Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities”
