The Alumni Reunion of the Twinning Program with Hanoi University of Science and Technology was held at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo on Saturday, March 8, 2025. This event was organized by Hanoi University of Science and Technology to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the program.
The Twinning Program with Hanoi University of Science and Technology is the first officially approved twinning program by the Vietnamese government. It was established as a bridge for engineering education between Japan and Vietnam, with the first batch of students being accepted at Hanoi University of Technology in April 2003. The Japanese Universities Consortium was established in October 2004, allowing not only our university but also consortium universities in Japan to accept students.
On the day of the event, approximately 40 participants attended, including about 25 alumni who graduated from our university or consortium universities in Japan and are now working as engineers in Japan, as well as Vu Thi Lien Huong, First Secretary of the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, and representatives from both universities. From our university, 9 representatives and staff members including President Kamado, Vice President Takahashi, Professor Emeritus Ito, Assistant to the President Naoko Lee-Iizuka, and Professor Isobe, Chair of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology Twinning Program Committee, were participated.
The event provided ample time for socializing, allowing participants to reconnect with old friends and colleagues, share memories of their student days, and discuss their current lives, creating a lively and friendly atmosphere.
At the end of the event, the establishment of an alumni organization was announced as well as future activity plans and policies were introduced, reflecting on the achievements of the program over the past 20 years. Vice President Takahashi called for strengthening the alumni network in preparation for the university's 50th anniversary celebration in 2026. The reunion concluded successfully.
Through the twinning program with the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, a total of 222 students have studied at consortium universities, including 78 at our university. Many of the graduates have gone on to work at Japanese or global companies, contributing actively to society. Moving forward, we will continue to enhance the program and strive to provide quality education and research opportunities for students.
