Specially appointed Lecturer / YAMAZAKI Hirohito
Dr Yamazaki is a kind helpful and heartful professor who support his students even when he is busy. He is usually in the laboratory, so he is close to the students and can easily offer advice on research and job hunting. He is also very attentive to each student, including research.

Research Content

The aim of this laboratory is to create nanotechnology-based devices that integrate 'optics', 'fluidics' and 'bioengineering'. The followings are current working projects.

1. Development of semiconductor-based single molecule measurement
devices
To create novel single molecule detection devices, we develop core technologies that integrate across disciplines and develop molecular measurement technologies using nanopore measurement.

2.Development of technology to control molecular synthesis using light
We will develop new molecular synthesis control technology utilising mid-infrared light by specifically perturbing the molecular structure toward pharmaceuticals and drug discovery.

A Day in the Lab

Core lab working time is 10:00-18:00. Students' independence is valued, so each student decides how to use their time, including when they plan to conduct experiments. Journal clubs and experiment progress report meetings are held once a week, where students can deepen their understanding through discussions and Q&A sessions, and consider the content of the next week's experiments.
The laboratory is an enjoyable place where there are no barriers between seniors and juniors, and where not only research-related consultations but also casual conversation is commonplace. In this laboratory, we have varieties of enjoyable events including welcome parties for newly members, fireworks viewing parties and so on.
