Associate Professor / YAMAZAKI Hirohito
Assoc. Prof. Yamazaki is a compassionate nanotechnology specialist whose research focuses on engineering novel devices through the integration of multiple scientific fields. He often presents in the lab and readily available to offer advice on experiments and research including job hunting. Assoc. Prof. Yamazaki is also known for attentiveness, supporting each students on an individual basis.

Research Content

Our laboratory is dedicated to developing novel devices by integrating “optics”, “bioengineering”, and “fluid engineering” to apply these technologies to practical applications. We focus on 2 main research topics:

Development of Semiconductor-Based Single-Molecule Detection Devices
To create next-generation nanobiodevices, we develop core technologies that integrate multiple scientific fields and advance single-molecule measurement techniques using nanopore sensing.

Development of Light-Based Molecular Synthesis Control Technologies
To elucidate gene functions relevant to medicine and drug discovery, we develop novel molecular synthesis control technologies that use mid-infrared light (MIR) to excite specific molecular structures selectively.

A Day in the Lab

Our laboratory operates with core hours from 10 AM to 6 PM, during which members manage their schedules independently. A progress report meeting is held once a week, providing opportunities to discuss research developments, exchange ideas, and plan future directions. Students are also encouraged to participate in academic conferences and international exchange programs.

Our laboratory fosters a friendly environment with open communication between senior and junior members. In addition to research activities, casual conversations are common here. We also organize various social events throughout the year, including welcome parties, fireworks-viewing gatherings, Christmas celebrations, and other recreational activities.
