Supervisor

Professor / Yasuhiro WADA
Professor Wada is a kind person with a firm hand when it comes to the research and guidance of his students. He looks after us inside and outside the laboratory and creates a great environment to explore our own interests. Feel free to talk to him about your hobbies or recent interests at some of the many laboratory events.

Research Content

The human brain is a complex system in charge on controlling every single one of our movements with unparalleled precision. In this laboratory we study the brain activity to try to unveil the key processes behind such precise control, and while doing so, we are witnesses of many of the brain wonders. Main research topics are: (1) Mathematical and computational models to express human motion. (2) Control of devices using patterns elicited in brain activity via auditory stimulation from virtual sound sources. (3) Discrimination of brain activity patterns using machine learning.

Simultaneous measurement of fNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy) and human arm trajectory

A Day in the Lab

With no mandatory hours to fulfil and no impositions about the time to arrive/leave the laboratory, we can proceed with research at our own pace. It's a free environment in which we don't use freedom as an excuse, but rather as our motivation to produce results we can show at the weekly meeting. For those doing their best, the reward is the opportunity to present results at relevant local and international events. In my three years here there have been visits to Canada, USA, China and Italy among other national venues. Expect to hear laughter, light chat, and smell coffee.
