  • Creation of novel materials through laser irradiation process

Professor / HONMA Tsuyoshi
As a graduate of a techinical college and an alumni of this university, Professor Honma is an asset to this institution. Being a very dedicated and passionate professor, he develops his students' potential to their best. His belief in two way communication with his students spreads positivity and welcomes new ideas. His appoachable nature, open mindedness and good engagement with his students also contribute to active and productive participation in labarotory events.

Research Content

Our laboratory pioneers innovative research, converging 'glass', 'batteries' and 'lasers' to address complex challenges. Focusing on fabricating functional novel glasses and glass-ceramics, we contribute to the world-leading field of oxide glass crystallization. Notably, we have developed a groundbreaking all-solid sodium battery from oxide ceramics, sans rare metals, through collaborative efforts. Equipped with a comprehensive array of measuring instruments, we evaluate diverse thermophysical and electrochemical properties. Our interdisciplinary approach and cutting-edge facilities propel us as leaders in advancing sustainable and efficient energy solutions, fostering collaboration between academia and idustry for transformative impact.

A Day in the Lab

In our labaraotory, we aim to cultivate verstalite students proficient not only in materials and chemical engineering field but aslo in diverse fields like mechanical, electronic and ICT. Welcoming students from various backgroudns, we foster knowledge exchange and collaboration across disciplines. Emphazing independence, students develop self-management skills while enjoying a meaningful student life. Weekly general research meetings and bi-monthly progress seminars provide platforms for in depth-discussions between students and professor. We also conduct numerous labaraotory events, encouraging students to engage fully in both research and extracullicular activities.
