  • The limitless potential of glass ceramics
  • Exploration of Glass-Based All-Solid-State-Battery Materials
  • Development of Functional Materials Using Laser Localized Melting

Professor / HONMA Tsuyoshi
Professor Honma is a gentle, kind, and approachable teacher. He actively participates in laboratory events. During his student days, he competed in the KOSEN Robot Contest, and he is well-versed in machinery and electronic control systems, making him a dependable professor.

Research Content

Our laboratory conducts research on novel functional glasses and glass ceramics, focusing on rare-metal-free battery materials and high-energy-density all-solid-state-batteries for safe and sustainable energy technologies. Recently, we have advanced laser irradiation processes for novel material synthesis and interface formation in all-solid-state sodium ion batteries. As a key achievement, we have successfully demonstrated, for the first time, the operation of an all-solid-state sodium ion battery enabled by a laser process. Our laboratory is internationally recognized for world-leading research on oxide glass crystallization.

A Day in the Lab

Our laboratory welcomes students from a wide range of backgrounds—not only materials science and chemistry, but also mechanical and electrical engineering. With excellent facilities and a well-supported research environment, students are encouraged to try new ideas and develop their skills. Independence is valued, and motivated students can enjoy a rewarding university life. We hold weekly seminars for research updates and paper discussions, as well as one-on-one progress meetings with the supervisor twice a month. The lab also hosts many social events, making it a great place for students who want to enjoy both research and lab life.
