  • A lab filled with green, flowers, and dreams!
  • Enriching hearts and lives with applied plant biotechnology.
  • Creating plants that serve and benefit humanity.

Associate Professor / TAKAHARA Yoshinori
Dr. Takahara always interacts cheerfully, guiding students not only with expertise but also extensive knowledge across various fields. Additionally, he is approachable for advice on job hunting and student life, making him a reliable mentor.

Research Content

In our laboratory, the main research themes include the development of "Blue Phalaenopsis with large and well-shaped flowers," "Analysis of a high-frequency somatic embryogenesis system from carrot cotyledons," and "Development of green building materials using moss cultivation." For instance, in Phalaenopsis, we aim to create a unique, non-existent large blue blossom by modifying genes that alter the pH of petal colors in varieties forming large blooms, using gene analysis and introduction techniques. Additionally, we conduct continuous research on a wide range of plants such as chamomile, Saintpaulia, and violets.

A Day in the Lab

In our laboratory, Fridays are seminar days with no specific core hours. Due to the nature of plant experiments, planning is crucial as obtaining results may take an extended period. Practical training involves dispatching students to agricultural and horticultural research institutes and companies in Niigata and Hokkaido, providing hands-on knowledge and skills related to commercial crops. The lab fosters a sense of community with events like welcome parties for new students, farewell gatherings for practical training, and excursions with the professor to witness salmon spawning and seasonal flowers, creating a lively and friendly research environment.

Every year, we go to the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival.
