Professor / JIANG Weihua
Professor JIANG is an influential researcher in pulsed power technology and plasma science and received the IEEE Fellow distinction in January 2014.
He is gracious and elegant in character, a prolific writer, adept at concise expression, and with him come care for students’ futures and lessons on how to think, act, move forward confidently.

Research Content

Pulsed power technology can be meant simply as adding lots of small electrical energy and releasing them together in a very short time—nanoseconds. Pulsed power is applied in plenty of fields such as military and industry. Here, we are developing pulse generators such as LTD, Marx, SOS, all of which have lots of unique functions. Applications of these pulse generators are also being investigated actively for laser excitation, water treatment and killing harmful bacteria.
Besides compact pulse generators, a huge and powerful generator named ETIGO-IV, which is considered as only one in Japan, is being investigated and developed in this laboratory.

A Day in the Lab

Oppenheimer was not made a scientist in a day.
Learning through enjoyment and adapting to local culture—together with friendly lab members, we experience spring cherry blossoms, summer baseball in the air, autumn chestnuts, and winter snow.
Our daily routine begins with C&E time—To enjoy coffee and watch engaging English anime or daily news. This practice is highly effective in improving our English skills and preparing us for international conferences, internships, and future careers.
After that we experience the fascination of electromagnetics by applying theory to experiments, read academic papers to spark new ideas, and share our research progress during weekly meetings.
