Associate Professor / SUGAI Taichi
Dr. Sugai is passionately researching radiation and high-voltage technology. At the same time, He is a very kind teacher who is friendly with everyone, and if there is something you don’t understand, He will kindly teach you and think together with you.

Research Content

We are conducting various research using high voltage and high power, such as water treatment technology using radiation and discharge plasma, power source development for miniaturizing radiation generation devices, power source development for reducing power consumption of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, high-power microwave generation technology, fundamental research on discharge, and research on food processing using pulsed power. Basically, we start by creating and evaluating high-voltage power sources ourselves to learn about power sources. Based on that foundation, we develop power sources and use them to generate radiation, discharge, and plasma for our research.

A Day in the Lab

In the Sugai Laboratory, everyone progresses their research with a goal in mind, using their free time to participate in weekly joint seminars with the Pulsed Power Research Laboratory, aiming for conference presentations and paper presentations. If good results are achieved, you may be taken to international conferences in the United States and other countries. Additionally, being a part of the Extreme-Energy Research Institute, there are many opportunities to interact with other laboratories in the same institute through lab life and events (such as softball tournaments and various parties), which I believe is conducive to building good friendships.
