Professor / YAMAGUCHI Takashi
Our professor is a thoughtful and generous mentor who draws on his extensive experience to guide us toward research aligned with our long-term career aspirations. His warmth and genuine empathy inspire every student. Share your dreams with him, and your journey in his laboratory may one day turn them into reality.

Research Content

Our laboratory focuses primarily on water purification research. Currently, most municipal and industrial wastewater is treated using microorganisms; however, the underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood, and challenges such as high energy consumption and operational costs persist. To address these issues, we develop energy-efficient and cost-effective water treatment technologies. Our research integrates molecular-level microbial analysis with macro-scale process engineering approaches. These technologies are applied not only domestically but also contribute to addressing water-related environmental challenges in developing countries and worldwide.

Advancing Energy-Efficient Water Treatment Through Integrated Microbial Engineering

A Day in the Lab

Our lab offers flexible working hours tailored to each student’s research needs. We hold weekly presentations to discuss ongoing projects and related publications. Beyond research and meetings, students are encouraged to develop their skills by participating in domestic and international conferences, internships, training programs, and workshops through our supervisors’ global networks. We also organize social activities such as softball tournaments, camps, and trips to the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival to promote interaction and strengthen team bonds. With many international students from diverse backgrounds, our lab fosters a multicultural environment that broadens perspectives and enhances global awareness.
