Professor / YAMAGUCHI Takashi
Our leader is a wise and generous professor. Thanks to his extensive experience, he guides us in suitable research to support our future careers. He can motivate the students with his warm smile and empathetic approach toward each of us. Just come to tell him your dreams; the journey in his lab can help us make them a reality someday.

Research Content

Our laboratory researches biological methods to remove pollutants from wastewater and soil waste generated by human activities. With a target on sustainable solutions, our research can be broadly classified into four main fields: 1/ Wastewater treatment of rubber, textiles, tapioca, and other industrial wastewater using anaerobic symbiotic degradation and methane fermentation processes. 2/ Aquaponics water treatment by aquaculture, bioflocks, and further anaerobic treatment reactors. 3/ Low-cost treatment systems such as UASB, DHS, ABR, and MBR for water treatment applications. 4/ Anaerobic sludge fertilizer and their microbial community are responsible for degrading sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus, and many other polluting compounds.

A Day in the Lab

Our lab provides flexible working hours to students, depending on their research requirements. Therefore, we hold weekly presentations to discuss each student's study or related publications. Besides research, meetings, and report time, students are facilitated to come outside to enhance their skills from many domestic - international conferences, internships, training programs, workshops, or events through our worldwide relationships with supervisors. Last but not least, to maintain a healthy work-life balance for all members, we organize many team-building occasions like sports events, Japan festivals, parties, ceremonies, or simply a canteen lunch together.
