Supervisor and Tutor System
Supervisor
You will pursue your study and research under the guidance of your supervisor.
Regular Students are recommended to discuss with the supervisor about courses to take and credits to earn for completing your course, or about any other academic matters at any time.
Research Students need to hold meetings regularly with the supervisor to ensure the progress of your research.
Tutor System
If you are a newly arrived international student, a student (usually a Japanese graduate student) appointed by your supervisor/class teacher will assist you on your academic and daily life for about 3 months.
Student ID Card
Student ID Card is issued to all students. If you lose it, please notify the Academic Affairs immediately.
With Student ID Card, you are able to access the following services:
- Book Lending System at University Library
- Facilities with Room-Entrance Control System (Card-Gate System)
- Certificate Issuing Machine *Please see below for details
Certificate Issuing Machine
*available to Regular Students only
You can issue necessary documents by putting your student ID card on the card reader, and type in your LiveCampus password on the screen. Machine located at Library and Academic Affairs office (on the first floor of Administration Bldg. 2).

Dai-ICHI Cafeteria (1st floor)
- Self-serve style. 340 seats
- Japanese, Chinese and noodles available
Dai-NI Cafeteria(2nd floor)
- Table service. 60 seats. Variety of Western food.
- Closed on weekends and holidays
Café POPEYE (1st floor)
- 2nd Floor. Self-serve style. 52 seats. Light meals and Coffee.
- Closed on weekends and holidays
Campus Store (1st floor)
- Items: Books, stationeries, daily goods, electronics, food, drinks, fresh vegetables and fruits, bus ticket, stamps, parcel shipments, FAX etc.
- Closed on Sunday and holidays
Barber (2nd floor)
- Reservation must be made.

International Friendship Lounge
As a place for interactions among international and Japanese students,
the Lounge can be used for individual studies and ordinary conversations, and meetings.

Mutsumi-kai
Mutsumi-kai is a voluntary group organized to support NUT international students.
Formed in 1988, the group was created for the purpose to support the 63 international students NUT had at the time.
Mutsumi-kai holds weekly counselling, and also sponsors several events and activities for international students such as a speech contest, a bazaar of daily supplies, and an Onsen trip on an annual basis.
Those who are interested in joining these events, please inquire directly to the Mutsumi-kai staff.
Extracurricular Activities
NUT International Students Association (NUTISA)
NUTISA was established by international students at NUT to promote friendship between people of various nations.
NUTISA promotes various events such as sports events, international festivals, and a Christmas party for international students and provide helpful information that makes international students’ life in Nagaoka easier and more comfortable.

Club Activities
NUT students have a variety of extracurricular options in the arts, sports, academics and social fields. Currently, there are about 50 officially recognized clubs and various independent groups that are very active.
