SDGs Promotion by Cooperation with KOSEN
International Conference on "Science of Technology Innovation" (STI-Gigaku)
STI-Gigaku (The International Conference on "Science of Technology Innovation") is a student-led, SDGs-focused international conferences held every year since FY2016.
The participants are mostly from Nagaoka University of Technology, KOSEN, universities in Japan and overseas, companies, and local communities.
The purpose of the conference is to achieve the SDGs set by the United Nations, through sharing progress and achievements in education and related research collaboration with the respective organizations.

SDGs Webinar
SDGs Webinar is an annual online workshop organized by KOSEN and co-hosted by Nagaoka University of Technology and Toyohashi University of Technology.
In this webinar, students present issues from their own local regions based on the SDGs and explore methods for regional revitalization and innovation to address these challenges. The webinar aims to foster "entrepreneurship" and practical skills, supporting the development of engineers who are committed to solving diverse social challenges.

KOSEN Open Innovation (KOI) - Challenges from Africa
Since FY2024, Nagaoka University of Technology has served as the administrative secretariat for the "KOSEN Open Innovation (KOI)" challenge. This initiative aims to provide KOSEN students with opportunities to address social issues in Africa, deepening their understanding and interest in global challenges while exploring innovative solutions through their flexible creativity and advanced technical expertise.
KOI invites proposals from KOSEN student teams across Japan to solve challenges identified by JICA and local African partners, such as private companies, government agencies, and educational institutions. Teams selected through a pitch contest proceed to prototype development and on-site verification testing in Africa.
Japan Seminar on Technology for Sustainability (JSTS)
Organized by KOSEN and co-hosted with Nagaoka University of Technology and Toyohashi University of Technology until 2023, this science and technology seminar targeted students from KOSEN, Universities of Technology, and overseas institutions. It aimed to develop global communication and facilitation skills through SDG-focused workshops and active cross-cultural exchange.
