Preparation for Admission
Pre-Arrival Information for New Students
Please check necessary pre-arrival information from
Payment of admission fee
*research students only (except MEXT Scholarship Student)
Please transfer the admission fee after you arrive in Japan and before you come to NUT.
We will inform you of the account information for transferring the money by email.
Enrollment Procedures
When you arrive at NUT, please come to、the Division of Student Affairs (1st floor of Administration Bldg. 2).
- Submit passport and residence card (if any)
Int'l Student Affairs (counter #6) - Complete the pledge
Int'l Student Affairs (counter #6) - Purchase GAKKENSAI and GAKKENBAI Insurance (Student Educational Research Activities Insurance)
*ALL NUT students need to join the insurance. Insurance premium is 1,340 yen. Please prepare exactly 1,340 yen in cash, as change is not available.
Student Support (counter #8) - Move-in procedure for campus dormitory (only for students living in dormitories)
Student Support (counter #8) - Receive a futon-set (Japanese style quilt and mattress)
*Only for exchange studnets and research exchange students
*Please provide your own pillow and sheets.
Int'l Student Affairs (counter #6)
Receive Your ID&PW of the On-Campus Account
Please receive your ID and PW on-campus account at 2nd floor of the Information System Bldg.
Once you receive it, please log in the STN email system, change your PW and set up the 2-step verification.
Emails from NUT will be sent to your STN email address. Please check your email daily.
To-Do at the City Office
*Only for students with student visa
Please go to the city office and complete the following procedures within 14 days from the date of arrival in Nagaoka.
- Complete resident registration
- Join National health insurance
- Apply for exemption or deferment of national pension payment
What to bring: passport, residence card, studend ID card and documents showing your address in Nagaoka (e.g., move-in permit you receive upon move-in procedures.)
Course Registration in Apr./Sep.
*Only for EXCHANGE students who wish to take regular courses in addition to their research activity.
NUT will email you upon start of the course registration period. Please follow the procedures.

Application for 24-hours Library Use
If you wish to use the library after closing hours, please apply for "24-hours Library Use".
Issuance of Certificates
If you wish to request issuance of the following certificates, please come to Int'l Student Affairs, or submit the application form to Int'l Student Affairs by email.

- A certificate designated by a home university/institution (Only for exchange/research exchange student)
If you wish to request issuance of the following certificates, please come to Academic Affairs (counter #5).

- Transcript (Only for exchange student)

every Wednesday from 13:30 to 16:30 (13:00 to 16:00 from December to February)

We encourage you to participate in the weekly general counseling sessions, where you can meet with local residents and other international students.
