Joint Symposium with Hanoi University of Science and Technology Held in Vietnam

On November 27(Thurs.),a joint symposium of Hanoi University of Science and Technology(HUST)and the Pacific Rim Project of Nagaoka University of Technology(NUT)was held at HUST.Many teachers and students participated from HUST.Furthermore,11 teaching staff and 15 postgraduate students,mainly in the fields of materials,biology,and environment,participated from NUT.At the symposium,many oral and poster presentations were made.Lively discussions were held.Dr.Pham Hoang Luong,Vice President of HUST,delivered a speech and expressed his strong expectation that the two universities would further deepen their cooperative relationship.Students of both countries who participated in the symposium made poster presentations to explain their everyday studies.Students who participated in the symposium from NUT said that they were very much stimulated in a positive way by the attitude of Vietnamese students,who actively posed questions and sought to absorb new knowledge.In addition,participating in a laboratory tour after the symposium to observe how Vietnamese students conducted research and what equipment was used,the students experienced the research environment in Vietnam first hand.

In April 2014,NUT concluded an agreement of Double Degree Program(DDP)in doctoral programs with HUST,with plans to accept DDP students from HUST in April 2015.The symposium is expected to be an opportunity to deepen the exchange with researchers of HUST further and gain momentum in the development of the students and young researchers of both universities.
