Nagaoka University of Technology faculty member gave a lecture on the SDGs as part of the 2021 Niigata Collaborative Open Lectures.

On Wednesday, July 7, Prof. Makoto Nanko ( Head of Nagaoka University of Technology’s Office for SDGs Promotion) gave a lecture titled “Introduction to the SDGs: Toward a World with No One Left Behind” as part of the 2021 Niigata Collaborative Open Lectures, held at Myoko City Office’s Collaboration Hall.

The Niigata Collaborative Open Lectures are designed to meet the learning needs of the people of Niigata Prefecture and provide lifelong learning opportunities for a wide range of prefectural resident, through collaboration between higher education institutions in Niigata Prefecture, Niigata Prefectural Lifelong Learning Promotion Center, and municipalities in the prefecture. The lectures were led by Myoko City, which was selected as an SDGs Future City by the Japanese Cabinet Office and, we were requested to give a lecture on the SDGs, as we have been appointed as a SDG 9 World Hub University for a second consecutive term from the United Nations.

During the lecture, Prof. Nanko, introduced the SDGs, along with details of initiatives being conducted by us and organizations in the prefecture. He also conveyed the message that there are many things that we as individuals can do in our daily lives to help achieve the SDGs, and that he wanted the listeners to learn, act, and talk about the SDGs at their leisure.

The lecture was streamed live on YouTube with sign language interpretation, providing a good opportunity for many residents of the prefecture to learn about the SDGs.
In the future, we will continue striving to promote the SDGs through collaboration with local communities.
