Environment and Process Design Laboratory

Professor / NAKAYAMA Tadachika Assistant professor / TAKIMOTO Yuya URA / FURUNO Hideto
  • Next-generation robot control technology using multimodal AI
  • Environmental purification and synthesis of useful substances using microorganisms
  • Development of new processes for ceramic fabrication

Professor / NAKAYAMA Tadachika
Prof. Nakayama has background knowledge in materials science, power engineering and IT. Furthermore, he has a deep knowledge of microbial technology, food engineering, as well as policy making and social science. We are looking for a wide range of students, not only in mechanical engineering, but also in electrical and electronic engineering, chemistry, IT, environmental engineering, and social sciences.

Research Content

The major research topics in this laboratory include inorganic materials science, ceramic synthesis processes, robot control, AI and other IT technologies, metaverse, transportation engineering, resource engineering, aerospace engineering, food engineering, smart agriculture, and data science-based policy making. Research themes will be decided through discussion after admission. PI Prof. Nakayama is an organizer of many international conferences and will give you many opportunities to present your research.

Next generation manufacturing lab that can be remotely operated from Metaverse

A Day in the Lab

The main research areas of this laboratory include robot control, functional ceramics, ceramic process science, and transportation engineering. Furthermore, one-third of our students are international students, and we have many short-term international students and short-term collaborators from universities and companies in Japan and abroad. Research is supervised in English and careful guidance is provided by many staff members. Independence is valued in the laboratories, and students are free to work part-time and engage in extracurricular activities.
