Professor / KIMURA Munehiro, Assistant Professor / SHIBATA Yosei
The faculty members are deeply engaged in research and kindly offer support for everyday concerns and consultations. They stop by the laboratory offices on a daily basis, creating an approachable atmosphere. This makes students feel comfortable seeking advice or having casual conversations. Their presence is a great source of reassurance for us.

Research Content

Liquid crystals(LCs)are widely used in display technologies such as televisions and smartphones. Our research focuses on both the fundamentals and applications of LCs. Core techniques include simulation, fabrication, optical evaluation, and analysis of LC devices. LC devices are designed using alignment simulation. LC devices are fabricated through many steps such as cleaning, rubbing, and slit coating. Finally, device performance is evaluated using various optical measurement systems. This research is also applied to flexible displays, organic solar cells, optical newral network, and agricultural films. This research is expected to contribute to future device technologies and society.

A Day in the Lab

We spend a time in research, Prof. Kimura and students discuss a bunch of topics everyday. We have lab seminars once a week and introduce their progress reports of research and the surveyrance of English articles related to the research. Seminar is a precious time to find new direction of research and receive valuable advice from professor. There is an English lecture where attendee reads English textbook of liquid crystals. There are some times to be spent free, such as going to part-time job, circle activities, lunch and dinner. Students makes a plan to do laboratory work, where you can conduct research according to your own schedule.
