Main theme of our laboratory is the research on the fine ceramic materials related to electronics and optics. “Hot spot” is a phenomenon in which a local part of a ceramic rod glows orange and the part moves slowly to the negative pole after applying voltage to the rod. The phenomenon is researched for an application to oxygen sensors. "Electric current heating" is a method to fabricate various shape of crystals. We successfully have observed an ultraviolet lasing at room temperature from zinc oxide crystals fabricated by the method. Using this method, we are actively conducting fabrication of wide band gap semiconductors, nanocrystals and carbon nanomaterials and so on.
