Advanced Ceramics for Medical Support Laboratory

Professor / SAITOH Hidetoshi Assistant Professor / KOMATSU Keiji
  • Develop sharp insight and broad materials knowledge
  • Acquire advanced material synthesis and analysis skills
  • New perspectives on metal, hydrogen, and carbon materials

Professor / SAITOH Hidetoshi
Professor Saitoh supports students with both strict and gentle guidance, drawing on multifaceted perspectives gained from a wide range of research fields. In addition, as a Director of the Society of Water Rescue and Survival Research, he promotes the concept of “Uitemate” worldwide.

Research Content

Our laboratory conducts a wide range of research in materials science. Recent studies focus on synthesizing and evaluating metal films that improve the water resistance of concrete, as well as film fabrication using chemical vapor deposition(CVD). We also emphasize biologically related research, including the synthesis and functional evaluation of antibacterial metal films for concrete. In addition, hydrogen storage materials are evaluated using gas chromatography.

A Day in the Lab

Laboratory seminars are held early in the morning, starting at 7:50 a.m. Unlike many other laboratories, there is no fixed core time, allowing students flexibility in their research. During morning seminars, students present and discuss research progress and English papers. Through repeated discussions, key points become clearer for both speakers and listeners. These seminars help students develop clear presentation slides and effective question-and-answer skills.
