Assistant Professor / INABA Kohko Technical Staff / YAMAGUCHI Takayuki
  • Developing efficient maintenance technologies for concrete structures
  • Research spanning from materials to structures
  • Aiming to build sustainable social infrastructure

Professor / SHIMOMURA Takumi, Associate Professor / KURIHARA Ryota, Assistant Professeor / INABA Kohko
Professor Shimomura supervises our research, and Technical Staff Mr. Yamaguchi supports our experiments. Assistant Professor Inaba also joined the team last spring. Through seminars and daily interactions, they teach us not only concrete engineering expertise but also the importance of logical thinking.

Research Content

Our laboratory conducts experiments and numerical simulations to propose smart and efficient maintenance methods for concrete structures, which are vital for social infrastructure.Professor Shimomura’s group focuses on structural engineering and materials science. By researching mass transport, drying shrinkage, and creep in concrete, the group contributes to more precise and efficient design and maintenance.Assistant Professor Inaba researches concrete pavement maintenance using AI and machine learning, helping to achieve higher precision and efficiency in maintenance practices.

A Day in the Lab

We manage our own schedules for daily research like experiments and simulations. We also exchange ideas with professors during lunches and weekly seminars.Since concrete research is hard to do alone, seniors and juniors support each other in tasks like casting specimens and field surveys. Our environment allows for open consultation regardless of age, often leading to lively chats about hobbies. If you are interested in working with concrete, come join the Concrete Lab!
