Sports,Phusiology and Information Engineering Laboratory

Associate Professor / OKUSHIMA Dai
  • Let’s scientifically clarify the physical functions of people doing sport and exercise.
  • Finding techniques to implement ‘sport and exercise’ more comfortably and to a higher standard.
  • Knowing ‘people’ who do ‘sport and exercise’ is a shortcut to good manufacturing.

Associate Professor / OKUSHIMA Dai
He is a very kind teacher who always thinks of the students first and gives his kind opinion. The content of what he teaches us about research is often from fresh perspectives that we have never learnt before, which is very interesting and intriguing.

Research Content

Dr Okushima’s research interests are mainly focused on (i) elucidating the integrated regulatory system of oxygen supply and consumption in muscles during exercise and (ii) developing techniques that enable sport and exercise to be performed more comfortably and to a higher standard. In recent years, among (i), we have been focusing on the heterogeneity of oxygen consumption and oxygen supply (oxygen dynamics) in active muscles, in relation to endurance exercise capacity, the mechanisms of their regulation and the functions and structures of the body that limit them.

A Day in the Lab

Currently, students in the laboratory seminars are currently working on deciding their own research topics in the laboratory. First, they search for papers in their field of interest, understand them and summarise them while organising them in their own way. They then give presentations in the laboratory, exchanging opinions with teachers and other students to deepen their understanding and find a more suitable theme. Through this process, students improve their ability to read and understand papers correctly and summarise the main points, and acquire the basic skills needed to carry out research.
