Professor / NAKAYAMA Tadachika
Prof. Nakayama has extensive experience in research supervision. He contributed to the development of tactile sensors used in AIBO. He also explores a wide range of fields, including mechanical, electrical, information, life, and environmental sciences. Active and humorous, he supports students pursuing study abroad and entrepreneurship. He also has a broad network across academia, industry, government, and international communities.

Research Content

This laboratory conducts interdisciplinary research spanning inorganic materials science, microbiology, robotics, IT, and data science–based policymaking. After joining the lab, research topics are determined through discussions with the PI, allowing each student to pursue projects aligned with their interests and ambitions. Recent projects include developing robots to reduce the burden of agricultural work, applying high-energy pulsed power with extremely short durations to soft matter and microorganisms, and advancing metal and ceramic 3D printing technologies. Through these efforts, the laboratory aims to create innovative materials, systems, and technologies that contribute to solving societal challenges and shaping future societies.

A Day in the Lab

In this laboratory, seminars are held twice a week, and there are no core hours. Students can cultivate independence and creativity by developing and executing their own research plans. Additionally, with many international students enrolled, it is a very global laboratory where you can learn about foreign perspectives and cultures by sharing daily life, such as serving each other traditional dishes.
The members have a good relationship, and there are events such as birthday parties for Prof. Nakayama and farewell parties for international and graduating students.
