Professor / NAKAYAMA Tadachika Specially Appointed Professor / GOTO Takashi URA / FURUNO Hideto
  • Development of new systems using robots and AI
  • Advanced metal 3D printer approach to the mobility industry
  • Fabrication of technology through ceramic material development

Professor / NAKAYAMA Tadachika
He has three proprietary technologies: nanocomposite technology in materials science; nanosecond pulsed power supply technology in electrical engineering; and multimodal AI in IT. Through convergence research that combines these technologies, he continues to solve global social issues and create “social impact”. He also works for the Cabinet Office of the Japanese government, where he formulates science and technology policy.

Research Content

This laboratory is engaged in research that integrates the fields of materials science, power engineering, and information technology. In particular, we are focusing on efforts to solve social issues. Examples include the development of robots that can care for people based on the control of grasping flexible objects, the development of systems for rapid purification of contaminated water, and the development of systems for the efficient operation of electric vehicles, etc. These research and development efforts are international collaborations with companies, governments, and other universities in more than 15 countries.

A Day in the Lab

Many efforts are being made by this laboratory to collaborate with governments, companies, and universities in various countries. These external collaborations bring together the most advanced scientific and technological information from around the world. Faculty members from Harvard, MIT, and other leading universities visit our laboratory. The results of our research are promptly implemented in society in the form of products and services. One-third of the lab's members are international students from eight countries. Weekly debriefings are held in English. New members are assigned at least one faculty member and a mentor to provide them with extensive guidance.
