Exchange Student 特別聴講学生

*New tuition will be applied to you in the case of any revision of tuition.

*If you fail to pay the admission fee or tuition fee by the designated deadline, you will be automatically expelled from the university, and you are required to return to your home country immediately. You will not able to re-enroll in the future as well.

Important Notes

  • Screening Fee must be paid when you submit an application, and in most of the cases it is non-refundable.

  • Admission Fee must be paid within the period of enrollment procedure. *Exception: Students who are continuing their doctoral program immediately after their completion of Master’s degree or Professonal degree at NUT.

  • Regular Students: pay in one lump sum up front or in 2 halves (in early May and early November).

  • Research Students: pay in advance. Amount will depend on your study period.

  • Exemption from payment: For Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship Students, Exchange Students and Research Exchange Students under academic exchange agreement and students in program of Science of Technology Innovation (5-year Integrated Doctoral Program) are NOT required to pay.

2. Other Expense

Please note that amount is subject to change, and additional fees may apply.

2.1 Student Insurance

All students, regardless of regular or non-regular, are obliged to purchase these two insurances at the time of enrollment.

Please contact Student Affairs (Gakusei-Shien-ka) 学生支援課 for details. In case of accident, please report to Student Affairs immediately.

  • Disaster and Accident Insurance for Students (Gakkensai) 学生教育研究災害傷害保険(学研災)

  • Personal Liability Insurance for Students (Gakkenbai) 学生教育研究賠償責任保険(学研賠)

2.2 Others

  • NUT Alumni Association lifetime membership fee: 12,000yen

  • NUT Society of Educational Program Fee: 20,000yen

  • Orientation Trip for new 3rd year undergraduate students: 10,000yen

Fee Exemption and Postponement

1. Admission Fee Exemption

Students who meet the following condition are qualified for exemption:

  • Undergraduate Student: student who has a difficulty to make a payment due to damages caused by a natural disaster in Japan.

  • Graduate Student: student who has difficutly to make the payment due to damages caused by a natural disaster in Japan, OR who has an outstanding academic record but has financial difficulty.

2. Admission Fee Postponement

Students must meet the following condition in order to apply for postponement:

  • Student who has an outstanding academic record and has financial difficulty to pay the admission fee by the designated date. OR

  • Student who has a difficulty to make the payment due to damages caused by a natural disaster in Japan.

Your payment of admission fee will be postponed once you are selected.
To apply, please contact Student Affairs during your enrollment formalities.

3. Tuition Exemption

Regular students who meet one of the following conditions may apply for tuition exemption:

  • Student who has an outstanding academic record but has financial difficulty to pay the tuition. OR

  • Student who has difficulty to make the payment due to the damage caused by a natural disaster in Japan within the last 6 months (within the past 1 year for new students)

*Important Notes*

  • Please be fully aware that most students do not get the exemption, therefore please do not make your financial planning, counting on receiving the tuition fee exemption.

  • One application only serves for a half year. To apply, please check the university website and bulletin board of the Student Affairs. Once you have applied, please do NOT make any payment until the result of your application is announced.

  • The selection is based on your previous year's academic grades and income.

  • If you repeat a year or take a leave of absence from NUT, you will have to pay full tuition fee even if you have received exemption.

  • If you are receiving scholarship, you may NOT request tuition fee exemption.

Scholarships for International Students

Terms and conditions are varied for different scholarships.

1. Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship Students 国費外国人留学生

QualificationEnroll in NUT as

Those who completed Undergraduate Study AND who is newly arriving in Japan to study or research

  • Japanses Embassy/Consulate abroad recruit students every year. For details, please contact Japanese Embassy in your country.

  • With recommendation from NUT: NUT accepts applications in October. Applicant should first contact a prospective supervisor and obtain an informal consent.

Financial Assistances for MEXT Sholarship Students

  • Monthly Stipend (Amount varies depending on student's status)

  • Exemption from Admission Fee and Tuition Fee

  • Travel Expenses to Japan AND return to home country after completion of program

2. SDG Professional Course Scholarship

SDG Professional Course (SDGP) is a graduate-level course which incorporates engineering education built on a foundation of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Students of SDGP may receive a scholarship at NUT.

3. 5-Year Integrated Doctral Program

5-Year Integrated Doctral Program is a unique program integrated master's and doctral degrees. All students of this department have access to the following types of financial support:

  1. Waiving of admission fees
  2. Waiving of tuition fees (up to five years)
  3. Employment as paid research assistant (salary of about JPY 50,000/month depending on number of hours)

4. Private Scholarships

2.1 With university recommendation

Students are required to register and submit necessary documents to Section of International Student Affairs for application.

Candidates will receive initial screening before final application to the private foundation providing scholarship program.

2.2 Apply in person

Students can apply directly to the private foundation.

Important Notes

Please note that scholarships from private foundations are usually 100,000yen or lower per month, and they tended to be limited to certain nationalities and require grades above certain level.

Even if you apply, there is no guarantee that you will win the scholarship.
