[Message from the President]To all students, ~Call for self-restraint to prevent the spread of COVID-19~
2020.07.31
COVID-19 infections are currently rising once again. Cases have occurred in student clubs and organizations in several universities. As you have seen in the news, this virus can infect people of any age. Even young people may develop severe, even fatal, infections, and reports have shown that COVID-19 can have long-lasting health effects after patients have recovered. People who do not realize that they are infected can also transmit the disease to others, which leads to an explosive surge in infections.
Restrictions on movement have been implemented in Japan and the rest of the world. The development of effective medications and vaccines may help to contain this pandemic, but we do not know when these will be completed. Until then, the current situation is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Under these circumstances, we must adapt to the “new normal” in our daily lives. NUT has established action guidelines for the pandemic (refer to the university website for details), and I ask that you strictly follow these guidelines. Although the national and local governments may periodically adjust their restrictions, NUT fundamentally respects its students as adults who are aware of their responsibilities and duties, and therefore aims to minimize restrictions on the freedom of movement. Please be aware of your responsibilities and act appropriately with self-restraint.
As the summer holidays begin, you may have plans to travel with your friends and families. In September, you will return to campus and begin your new lives. During that time, please exercise the highest degree of caution to avoid infections. NUT is doing its utmost to ensure your safety, and to create an environment and rules so that you can feel secure in continuing your education and research here. I hope that together, we will overcome the dangers in this “new normal”, and regain your campus life filled with hopes and dreams.
AZUMA Nobuhiko, President
