Industry-Academia Fusion Specially Appointed Lecture / NAKATA Taiki
Has an uncompromising honesty to research development. Work with students for some experiments such as casting, wrought processing and microstructural characterization. Students sometimes get strict option against their data and consideration if they poorly understand the results.

Research Content

The main purpose is to develop high-performance magnesium alloys that can be used as structural components of transportation vehicles. We try to do collaborative works with industries. The ''industry-academia" relation helps us to tackle issues, which hinder the wide application of magnesium alloys. Recently, we are also conducting some works, which are related to biomedical application and surface coating. They motivate us to focus on challenging studies.

A Day in the Lab

In our laboratory, students communicate with their supervisor on a regular basis and conduct experiments independently. Therefore, students can freely decide their own daily research schedule. Several equipments are kept by ourselves. Machines for casting, wrought processing (extrusion and rolling), and microstructure characterization (OM, XRD, SEM, and AFM) are available at any time. Each student is assigned one research theme, while students often discuss the experimental results such that they can solve their difficulties very smoothly.
