Thanks to the instruction of Nonaka Sensei I've been able to enjoy my time researching. He's gentle, friendly and trustworthy. I can always rely on him when I need advice, and I can discuss my research results passionately. I can relax and feel safe and productive in this laboratory.

Research Content

In our Knowledge Mining Laboratory, we specialize in developing methods for extracting useful information from patent documents, as well as information available in social networking sites such as twitter or online forums. In addition, we collaborate with industry and factory data for the introduction of machine learning. For the patents, for example, a team develops methods to rate the usefulness of the patented technology from their documents, mapping out the relevance of certain technologies when used by others, etc. As for social network analyses, we focus on information that can help market analysis, such as customer behavior.

A Day in the Lab

The laboratory environment:
(1) There's no set time or place for research, as long as there is progress reported periodically.
(2) Progress is mainly reported using the workplace IRC app Slack, although there is a weekly seminar.
(3) Optional and mandatory study sessions are held periodically.
(4) Discussion happens frequently with teachers and friends with ease even during times other than seminars.
(5) Events and parties are planned in special occasions.
