Associate Professor / MASAGO Hideki
Professor Masago was formerly working in the field of international marine research and investigation as a specialist in maritime safety. Based on his experience of working for an organization operating the Deep-sea drilling vessel Chikyu, he is familiar with safety (HSE) management in offshore drilling industries.

Research Content

Safety standards and marine environmental conservation for ships sailing the world's oceans are ensured based on international technical standards and treaties. However, they are continually being revised in response to technological advances and changes in social environments.
In the laboratory, we are working to resolve technical issues that can contribute to society, while identifying future global trends in the fields of energy conservation and decarbonization, or new technologies such as underwater robots and drones. In addition, he is also interested in safety of human beings in the Earth system, based on his original expertise in earth science.

A Day in the Lab

This is a newly established laboratory that mainly focuses on ocean-related themes. Most of the students in System Safety are working adults, so many students settle their research themes by themselves, and work together with their supervisor under the professional advices and supports.
This laboratory is suitable for those who wish to develop practical human resources who can respond to a wide range of social needs.
