President Dr. Azuma Attends the Third Vietnam-Japan University Presidents’ Conference (2015)

 President Dr. Nobuhiko Azuma and Head of Center for International Exchange and Education Dr. Yoshiro Ito, Prof. of Department of Mechanical Engineering, attended the Third Vietnam-Japan University Presidents’ Conference, which was held at the University of Danang, Da Nang, Vietnam, on September 28 (Mon.) and 29 (Tue.), 2015. The conference was co-organized by the University of Danang and Kyoto University that Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) designated as host universities and supported by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In all, about 200 people participated from 44 universities in Vietnam and 28 universities in Japan.

 With “Cultivating Human Resources for the Future of Vietnam and Japan” as the general theme, the Third University Presidents’ Conference was opened with addresses from President of University of Danang Dr. Tran Van Nam and President of Kyoto University Dr. Yamagiwa. Subsequently, participants separated into two parallel sessions for discussion: “A. Educational Cooperation and Quality Assurance” and “B. Research Collaboration and Utilizing Research Outcomes for the Benefit of Society.”

 President Dr. Azuma and Prof. Ito respectively participated in parallel sessions A and B. They made presentations in accordance with the theme of each session, such as introduction of the results and examples that Nagaoka University of Technology has achieved and future development of NUT. They hosted lively discussions with other participants on human resources development both in Japan and Vietnam.

 President Dr. Azuma also took the platform as a panelist at the plenary session on the 29th. He gave a presentation on the general outline of exchanges between NUT and Vietnam, including acceptance of international students from Vietnam and the twinning programs at NUT.

 Japan and Vietnam commemorated the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2013 and have strived to deepen their mutual exchange. NUT will further strengthen the exchange through the expansion of existing efforts, including twinning and double degree programs, and the administration of Vietnam Japan International Institute for Science of Technology (VJIIST), which we established jointly with Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
