Nobuhiko Azuma, President of Nagaoka University of Technology

Our university has established the “Department of Science of Technology Innovation”, a five-year integrated doctoral program within the Graduate School of Engineering. The Doctoral Program for World-leading Innovative & Smart Education (WISE Program) entitled, “the Global Pro-active Root Technology Program” (hereinafter referred to as “this program”) has been established in the Department of Science of Technology Innovation and is now accepting students.
In cooperation with the industry and overseas collaboration bases, this program offers an integrated five-year doctoral program to foster professionals of “root technology”, which constitutes the foundation of all industries, with a focus on materials science and power engineering (more specifically, control engineering and power electronics), and to help achieve SDGs.
Students of this program are exempt from tuition and entrance fees, and are entitled to the support benefits so that they can concentrate on research (about 80,000 yen per month in the first and second years, and about 130,000 to 170,000 yen per month in the third through fifth years). Students can also receive subsidies for travel expenses and attendance at academic meetings. They enjoy more favorable economic conditions than ordinary students at the Department of Science of Technology Innovation.

Those who have already been accepted by the Master’s Program of the Graduate School of Engineering of our university will be invited to complete a survey on the intent to participate in this program (※). Selection will be conducted on the candidates. Please read carefully the Application Guidelines for the WISE Program and apply before the deadline.

(※)Those eligible will be notified via email.

This program presupposes that participants intend to pursue a doctorate degree. Those who have been accepted in the Master’s Program of the Graduate School of Engineering must pass an examination to study at the Department of Science of Technology Innovation (document screening and interview, but no examination fee). (Even if you do not pass this examination, you will be able to study at the already admitted department).
