Support for local elementary and junior high schools

Faculty and staff members, and students supported group activities titled “NUT SDGs Quest”

On 14 October (Wed), “NUT SDGs Quest” was implemented to 35 six-grade students of Elementary School Attached to Joetsu University of Education.

The elementary school and travel agency contacted Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) and they wanted to learn contribution of SDG activities instead of school trip which was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic. NUT reposed their request and “NUT SDGs Quest” was orgnized by member of Office for SDGs promotion.

In consideration of the situation of COVID-19, the elementary school provided their guardian with explanation of this event before and after. Furthermore, NUT took countermeasures for prevention of infection and divided students into 6 gropes, then each group visited “Techno Museum” and “Laboratory of faculty members”.

<Keyword of each activities>

  • Group1 Dr. Nanko / Mechanical Engineering “International Contributions”
  • Group2 Dr. Saito / Analysis and Instrumentation Center ”Remote Electronic Microscope Observation”
  • Group3 Dr. Ikeda・Mr. Nakamura / Civil and Environmental Engineering “Let’s make and learn! Mechanism of Familiar Civil Engineering Structures”
  • Group4 Dr. Shida / Bioengineering “Sustainable being close at hand – Ability of Microorganism”
  • Group5 Dr. Ohta / Nuclear System Safety Engineering “Safe Water”
  • Group6 Dr. Sato / System Safety “Establishment of Renewable Energy Society, and Safety”

This time, NUT could not accept big group so that the elementary school students experienced activities separately. All the groups were full of students with smiles and shining eyes, and we were very pleased that we could provide a part of good memories of final grade of elementally school life as a member of Office of SDGs promotion.
NUT will continue to work actively to promote collaboration between local and educational institution in the future. We will support cultivation of students who carve out a new future through SDG education.
